Orienteering & Team Training
The sunny weather held out to the weekend and on Saturday Jonny travelled up to Limavady to compete at the 5th round of the NI Orienteering Colour Series, held at Binevenagh. Jonny had an excellent run on the ‘brown’ course to finish second, 5.36 minutes behind the eventual winner Ivan Millar.
On Sunday it was an opportunity for the guys to all get together for some ‘team’ training. Meeting down at Kilbroney Forest Park at Rostrevor, the day started on the mountain bikes heading up through and out the back of the forest towards Yellow Water. Then we doubled back via the Red Bog to Cloghmore and then up to the top transmitter on Slieve Martin. The bikes were locked up and we headed out for a 10km run loop via Knockshee, up to the Rowans and back to the bikes. The final part of the day was cutting over to Slieve Ban and down the fast (scary) descent at Fen Gully to join the trail and back to Kilbroney. The weather was amazing and a far cry to the rain that was forecast from the day before. We covered over 1000m in ascent and over 30km in distance. It was an excellent training session for the Kilbroney Challenge which is less than 2 weeks away now.
